Wizards of the Lost Kingdom (1985)  3 out of 10⭐ Made by a 10 yr old?

What if someone gave a 10 yr old boy a $100,000, and told them to make a Sword & Sorcerer movie? That's exactly what you have here.

3 out of 10⭐  Time to read: 2min 34 sec

SYNOPSIS:

An evil wizard, Shurka (Thom Christopher), makes a romantic deal with an evil queen, Udea (Barbara Stock) to betray her husband, King Tylor (Augusto Larreta), and take over the kingdom  of Axeholme. The King's head wizard, Wulfrik (Edgardo Moreira), gives his son, Simon (Vidal Peterson), a special ring and transports him out of the kingdom just before Shurka kills him. But the ring is too big, and falls off Simon's finger, just before he was transported. Simon has to get back to his kingdom, retrieve his ring, and defeat the evil that's infiltrated Axeholme. While trying to get back home, Simon meets up with a warrior named Kor (Bo Svenson). They defeat all manner of creatures while on their adventure, and become fast friends.

WHAT WORKS:

THE COSTUMES, are really quite impressive for the budget and the time. they are also tailor made to fit the actor's facial structure. This is particularly true of  Thom Christopher and Barbara Stock.

THE CREATURES really work in a campy, hilarious type of way. I'm not saying they work like a Star Trek monster, I'm saying they are fun, fit the narrative, and there are so many different types, you're always looking forward to what the next one will be - and you're never disappointed.

Lots of creatures

Some work better
Some don't work

And some are just weird

WHAT DOESN'T WORK:

THERE'S NOT MUCH PLOT and what plot there is, doesn't make much sense. Is it a deal breaker? No! Your expectations need to be adjusted for this kind of low budget fair.

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 featured this movie and every movie they feature gets a low rating, sometimes underserved. Is this a great movie? No, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. People are so scared of looking stupid, they are afraid to say they don't agree with MST3K, and that's sad.

NONE OF THE COVER ART HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY Simon has blonde hair, not brown. There's no flying creature, I could go on, but you get the point.

TO RECOMMEND, OR NOT TO RECOMMEND, THAT IS THE QUESTION:

This movie isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. This movie feels like someone gave a bunch of 10 - 12 year old boys a $100,000 and told them to create a sword and sorcery movie, and this is what you get.  But that's great, because that's who the target audience for this movie is, so it works! I recommend this movie to 8-12 year old boys, I think they'd love it. For everyone else, know what you're getting into, and then just enjoy the silly ride. But if you're someone who doesn't enjoy fantasy stories, or low budget, then I'd give this a pass. But I love hearing from people who disagree, so please drop a comment.

CLOSING NOTES:

*THIS IS A LOW BUDGET MOVIE, please keep that in mind before you watch/rate it. Roger Corman movies have a much lower budget, and so you expectations should be adjusted.

*I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THE FILM, or production in ANY way. I'm not writing this as a favor, or because I was paid.

*CERTIFIED HUMAN WRITTEN REVIEW This review was NOT written in full, or in part, by a bot. I am just an honest viewer, who wishes for more straight forward reviews (less trolls and fanboys), and better entertainment. Hope I helped you out.
