The Endless Steppe: Growing Up in Siberia 5 of 5 stars ⭐

By Esther Hautzig

I remember reading this book as a young adult (about 11 or 12), & it really left an impression on me. I remember her (the main character) terror at being ripped away from everything she's ever known. I remember the horrific conditions, picking potatoes, & how happy she is to get a new jacket when she leaves.

That is the simplistic memory of my 12 yr old self. Also, 1985 is many miles in the rearview mirror at this point. However, since I remember this book's impact on my younger self, my older self thinks I should recommend it to the current young adult readers out there, who need all the historical education they can get.

It is a good introduction to young adults about WWII, & some of the horrific events that occurred. But it isn't too graphic, & is definitely something YA's can handle. I highly recommend.
