THOUGHTS:
Heather Henry |
Several of the contestants comment on the last episode where Beki Ingram is accused of "throwing Sue under the bus." THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED! Sue Lee is a histrionic personality type. She creates chaos wherever she goes, and almost no one wants to work with her (except other histrionics like Brea Joseph). It was odd to me that Heather Henry agreed with Ian, that she thought Becki's comments about Sue were wrong, but then desperately wanted to be pared with Becki, over Sue, actually saying she didn't want to work with Sue at all costs.
Tara Lang is also upset about having to work with Sue, saying she's "nervous because drama follows each partnership that Sue has." Again, it's what everyone is thinking, but afraid to say. By not confronting Sue with her behavior, are we really helping her?
Reactions to Becki's comments:
Strength is isolating |
What bothers me about this, and I have had this happen again and again in my own life, is people hate you for being strong, but secretly envy you for it. Beki Ingram is a strong, talented, capable artist, that doesn't pull punches. I would caution her to watch her own mind. That strength can be intoxicating, and lead you astray. Becki seemed to be enjoying Sue's bad critique, and that is not a good thing, even for people who drive you crazy with their insane behavior.
But is it throwing someone under the bus by telling the truth, when we all know it's the truth? I love Ian Cromer to death, he seems to have a kind and self-deprecating energy that we should all aspire to. But at the same time, you're not helping anyone if you don't give constructive criticism, even if it hurts them! That's how we grow as human beings, and as artists, and shielding people's feelings at all costs, can often inhibit growth.
Ian Cromer |
I love the fact that Ian Cromer says we have to stick together, and lift each other up, and wasn't that what Becki was doing when she cleaned out your sculpture, when she had extra time? She wanted you to succeed, and be a fierce competitor, and sometimes that's a harder emotion to feel when it's a person who drives you nuts. Being harsh is sometimes a gift, but it needs to be done with a pure heart.
Personal Notes:
I love Ve Neill's jewelry on almost every episode, and I love Glenn Hetrick's steampunk watch.

GREED HAS RUINED THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY:
This show is a prime example of what greed has done to the entertainment industry. It starts out great, just like Ink Master and Drag Race, but little by little, the start cutting corners. It's not because the ratings were bad on any of these three shows, they cut because the executives got greedier. This show first eliminated interesting field trips to places of meaning for the make-up industry. Then when that wasn't enough, they cut the lab days from 3 to do, making the make-ups TERRIBLE! That's when people stopped watching, and it's a damn shame, because this was a great show.
