ARCTIC VOID (2022) 3 out of 10 stars ⭐
BASIC PLOT:
Ray Marsh (Michael Weaver) and Alan Meursault (Tim Griffin) are filming a travel show, on a boat, in the artic. They are using a new cameraman, Sean Tibbets (Justin Huen), who they've never met before. He is very reserved, to the point of being rude. Sean is carrying an antique lunchbox around, and when he goes to film some B-role, Ray looks inside. It's and old fashioned tape deck. Ray and Alan listen to what sounds like whale song. In minutes, all the passengers and crew on the boat disappear. They soon reach land, and find an abandoned base. Alan begins to get deathly ill soon after their arrival. Sean is clearly hiding something, can they discover what it is, in time to save themselves?
WHAT WORKS:
*THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL ATMOSPHERIC, but I've seen this location on Mysteries of the Abandoned (2017), and enjoyed it more on that show.
*THE ANCILLARY CHARACTERS ARE BETTER THAN THE MAIN ONES Jim (Rune Temte), the boat captain, is the best character in the movie. He's an ancillary character, who doesn't even have a last name.
WHAT DOESN'T WORK:
*THERE'S NO STORY HERE. I kept expecting something would happen, but it never did. This movie is just a bunch of foreshadowing, leading to nothing.
*THERE'S NO ENDING. Nothing. No resolution.
TO RECOMMEND, OR NOT TO RECOMMEND, THAT IS THE QUESTION:
*I would not recommend this movie. There's nothing here to recommend, there's no story.
CLOSING NOTES:
*THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT MOVIE, please keep that in mind before you watch\rate it. Independent movies have a much lower budget, and so your expectations should be adjusted.
*I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THE FILM, or production in ANY way. I am just an honest viewer, who wishes for more straight forward reviews. Hope I helped you out.
